PARENTING: A SMOOTH AND BUMPY RIDE

“ There is no such thing as a perfect parent so just be a real one”

Parenting is a 24 X 7-365 day job. This in itself can be difficult and scary at the same time. However, it becomes a pleasure when parents are able to establish amongst themselves and with children certain ground rules. The biggest problem that most parents face at different stages of life is enforcing rules and establishing boundaries.

Children end up doing what they are ordered to do not because they want to but because it is imposed on them. This does not create an environment of accountability. Therefore, in order to nurture children in a balanced way it is important to provide opportunities to make them responsible and thus accountable.

When we assign chores it has to be an agreement with crystal clear understanding of the consequences. The consequences are again not to be considered as punishment, but a part of the deal that makes both parties answerable. Crucial to these aspects, is setting limits and defining what is a distinct and precise NO. Then there should be no compromise on this count.
