The measure of intelligence is the ability to change' -Albert Einstein.
“I can't change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.” -Jimmy Dean
“The secret of change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new” -Socrates
At Parivartan, we encourage and celebrate change: constantly evolving, continuously striving. One size fits all, is not the way to go, where personal growth and change are concerned. It has to be individually tailored for oneself through trial and error or be designed by a mentor who assists slowly but surely, to achieve tiny benchmarks or to traverse a long winding road, persevering through thick and thin to gain mastery over whatever one desires.
The above quotes from diverse personalities from different eras convey what we are always trying to emulate and manifest in the lives of our patrons, irrespective of age and ability: effort versus results. This in no way negates the importance of perfection that the entire world may be hankering after, but it is the process that is of prime importance: be it the urge to better one's vocabulary or read as many authors as possible, the trajectory of growth is pivoted on three core factors :
1. Introspection: A habit that helps one to delve deep into oneself and listen to the sound of silence within or the churning and rumbling of a free-flowing lava waiting to exit. The sooner one discovers and adopts it, change will become magical and easy.
2. Need for growth: an urge from within, an inherent call to experiment, dabble and try different colours from the palette of life. This is more akin to a butterfly flitting from one flower to the other. For an onlooker, it spells the acme of freedom but for the butterfly, it is an inbuilt urge to gather nectar and thus more experiences. Whereas for a caterpillar the natural calling is to change or metamorphose into a butterfly but within the butterfly lie the imprints of a caterpillar and within the caterpillar lie tiny pockets of energy that would perhaps convert it into a butterfly. Both are whole and complete as they are.
3. Type/s of intervention: This is where individualized, customized, and specially tailored interventions come into play. Adults need to create these learning environments for themselves as well as aid children in creating their areas of change/growth where a fair amount of experimentation is possible. This helps to recognize impermanence and how it is vital to catch the moment if one deems so and wants to and not as an imposition because everyone is doing so.
4. Consolidation: Every experience would lead to a different conclusion and weighing the pros and cons then becomes a part and parcel of the change you may have envisaged for yourself.
5. Reflection: This is the flipside of introspection, wherein an entire process or journey is reflected upon or looked at in hindsight to draw the lessons to add to the change cycle that one encounters around the bend.
Children may not have the freedom to follow a path of their choice, whether it is to do with food, clothes, or what is learned because everyone around them seems to be socialized to a point that true identities perhaps get lost in the jamboree. Thus diving into environments that allow individuals: children and adults alike to be able to meander through and soak in whatever they want is more essential than force-feeding them what we want.
In a fast-changing world, some aspects of the old world order may be redundant or tedious but each would lead to a certain path: Permutation combination and critical thinking are the cornerstones of all change. Sometimes a pattern may repeat or vanish for a while and re-emerge. Riding a wave of your own frequency to quench your thirst for change and/or growth should be a choice you make rather than pursue the paths and dreams of others that for you are often fake.
We look forward to internalising change and offering it in varied formats to our end users as we step into 2024.
